Special Guest «The Social Kitchen»

Sandra Knecht

Platzspitzpark

The artistic practice of Sandra Knecht (b. 1968) is transdisciplinary, combining art, culinary arts, performance, photography, installation, sound, and social interaction. Her choice of medium is always guided by the specific question at hand rather than a fixed artistic discipline. For over ten years, she has been exploring the concept of "Heimat" (home/belonging) and questions of origin, identity, memory, diversity, and community. In doing so, she connects personal family history with social and political issues. For Sandra Knecht, "Heimat" is a fluid concept—personal, transient, and shaped by relationships, experiences, and memories.

A distinctive feature of her practice is the intersection of art and cooking. Food serves not only as a theme for her, but as an artistic medium. Shared meals become performances and so-called "social sculptures," fostering encounter, exchange, and community. Through taste, smell, and rituals, she makes the concepts of home and identity directly tangible.

Many of her projects are created in dialogue with visitors or communities. Art is not understood as a finished object, but as a social process. Dinner parties, celebrations, and collective experiences are therefore just as much a part of her work as traditional exhibitions.

As a special guest in "Pakghor – The Social Kitchen" by Britto Arts Trust, Sandra Knecht will cook alongside the renowned chef Rebecca Clopath.
